Indy 500 TV Rating (2nd Update)

UPDATE #2 ABC's telecast of the Indianapolis 500 on Sunday, May 24, earned a 'Fast National ' 4.1 rating, averaging 6,394,097 viewers, according to Nielsen.

The telecast was ABC’s highest-rated and most-viewed Indy 500 since 2011.

The rating was up five percent from last year’s 3.9 rating, and viewership also rose five percent from last year’s 6,063,011 average.

The rating and viewership peaked in the final half hour of the race at 4.7 and 7,330,809.

Indianapolis led all metered markets with a 12.7 rating, followed by Dayton, Ohio, at 9.9 and Louisville at 8.7. Milwaukee (7.5) and Albuquerque (6.5) were fourth and fifth, respectively.

Rounding out the top 10 metered markets were Oklahoma City, 6.4; Cincinnati, 6.2; Kansas City and Fort Myers, 6.1; and Greenville, S.C., 6.0.

05/25/15 The IndyCar Series Indianapolis 500 earned a 4.2 overnight rating on ABC Sunday afternoon, up a tick from last year (4.1), up 11% from 2013 (3.8), and the highest overnight for the race since 2011 (4.3). Going back further, the 4.2 is tied as the second-highest for the race since 2008 (5.1), matching 2009 and behind only 2011.

Though solid by recent standards, Sunday’s 4.2 overnight is also tied as the fifth-lowest for the Indy 500 since live start-to-finish coverage began in 1986.

Indianapolis was the top market for Sunday’s telecast, earning a 12.7 rating for tape-delayed coverage. The 12.7 marks a 2% increase over last year (12.4) and is the event’s highest rating in the market since 2011 (14.5).
