Australia’s greatest rock band Cold Chisel to play Gold Coast’s biggest party

Legendary Australian rock band Cold Chisel will start the Queensland leg of their One Night Stand tour at the Castrol Gold Coast 600 in October.

The band has announced that the V8 Supercars' event will be a major highlight on a tour that will finish with two already sold-out shows at the Qantas Credit Union Arena in late December.

"Cold Chisel is pumped to be coming to the Castrol Gold Coast 600 in October – we love fast cars and the Gold Coast 600 is a fantastic event," said Cold Chisel front man Jimmy Barnes.

“Cold Chisel, V8 Supercars and the Gold Coast – what more could you ask for. I know it’s going to be a night to remember."

It was the V8 Supercars’ Sydney 500 in 2009, when Cold Chisel played in front of 50,000 fans which reignited their desire to tour and record together again after many years apart. This led directly to their Light the Nitro tour in late 2011, the biggest tour ever by an Australian-based band.

The band's Gold Coast performance – on Saturday October 24 – is expected to be at full capacity, with tickets strictly limited.

Joining the legendary band on the Gold Coast will be the biggest racing import since the days of ‘Indy’ with Robby Gordon’s spectacular stadium trucks being shipped from the US to the Gold Coast.

The stadium trucks were a crowd sensation at the Clipsal 500 Adelaide which resulted in one of the biggest attendances in history at the multi-award winning event.

The monsters on wheels generate speeds upwards of 210 km/h, jumping man-made ramps and flying 100 meters through the air two-storeys off the ground.

The stadium trucks have grown a massive following around the world, capturing the imagination of millions as an adrenaline pumping spectacle as these 600hp beasts fly through the air.

“I have so many amazing memories of the Gold Coast event," said Gordon who raced six times on the streets of Surfers Paradise.

“It is one of the very best street tracks in the world and the way the Gold Coast turns it on is incredible. We found in March of this year at the Clipsal 500 that the Australian motorsports fans are amazing and love to see the stadium Trucks fly through the air and beat and bang only the way they can.

“To be able to bring our trucks to Queensland’s biggest party is going to be a huge highlight for our series. The SST’s on that track will be absolutely spectacular and we can’t wait to get back to Australia in October."

V8 Supercars’ CEO James Warburton said with the addition of Cold Chisel and stadium trucks the event would grow beyond the additional 10,000 fans that attended last October.

“Last year we said that we would make this the biggest entertainment event on the Gold Coast and we delivered," he said. “Now we are raising the bar. Cold Chisel will be one of the biggest shows the event has had.

“And the stadium trucks have to be seen to be believed. Their show in Adelaide had people on their feet. It is fantastic they have been able to come back to Australia and the Castrol Gold Coast 600 in October.

“As Queensland’s largest annual sporting event, delivering over $40m of economic stimulus and showcasing the Gold Coast to 206 million viewers worldwide, the Castrol Gold Coast 600 will also be a chance for Gold Coasters to indulge in some celebrity spotting."

Tourism and Major Events Minister, Kate Jones, said the event provided the Gold Coast with a significant economic boost each year.

“The Castrol Gold Coast 600 is the last of three V8 Supercars motorsport events for the state in 2015, which together generate more than $75 million for Queensland," Ms. Jones said.

“The event is one of the biggest on the state’s events calendar. It created more than 72,000 visitor nights on the Gold Coast last year, with more than 33,000 people coming from outside of the city for the event.

“The Palaszczuk Government recognizes the importance of major events in driving tourism because a strong tourism industry means more jobs for Queenslanders."

Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate said the event put the Gold Coast on the international stage.

"The amazing images of this great race can be seen around the country and overseas – showcasing our amazing city to the world," Mr. Tate said.

“Our city is looking forward to hosting the 24th event on the Gold Coast and welcoming visitors from all over to enjoy a fantastic stay on the Gold Coast."

Club 600 – the Las Vegas style day club on Macintosh Island – will be expanded from its debut last year with a new configuration, chill zones and more DJs for party goers to let their hair down and party trackside.

Sydney based Sax on Legs DJ Natalie Mastro will join Gold Coaster Brooke Evers and Melbourne’s Courtney Mills as the headlining female DJs at Club 600 supported by other acclaimed DJs on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

After all grandstands were sold out last year an additional 950 seats will be added at the track’s two best locations – the spectacular first chicane at the end of the main straight and another on the beach chicane. These areas are considered among the most spectacular parts of the circuit.

All of this amazing entertainment is in addition to the main show, as V8 Supercars go to battle in the last round of the PIRTEK Enduro Cup.

V8 Supercars are joined on the tough Surfers Paradise street circuit by the Porsche Carrera Cup Australia, V8 Utes, Formula 4, the remarkable Showtime FMX motocross stunt shows and Matt Mingay’s Hot Wheels Stunt Team.

V8 Superfest is back after staging 37 events last year across ten days. V8 Superfest attracted 51,745 people in 2015 with 95.8 per cent of people voting it was important for the community.

Of those who attended a V8 Superfest event 65 per cent were local and 35 per cent were visitors, 5 per cent coming from overseas.

Along with additional grandstands the air-conditioned corporate suites are once again a feature, with thousands of fans having already booked their place. Grandstand and corporate packages for premium viewing are selling quickly.

Free public transport is available on certain services to and from the event with a pre-purchased ticket.
