IndyCar: Friday Morning Update from Belle Isle

Good morning from the beautiful Belle Isle in Detroit, Michigan. The clouds I woke up to have moved out and it is a sunny day. Might be the best day of the weekend for weather.

What will this double race weekend bring? The Indycars will be back to the road course setup so we will have different issues this weekend. Will Chevy continue to kick Honda's butt? There is an aerodynamic change for the Hondas this weekend at Detroit – the front wing endplates will be removed as requested by IndyCar due to safety – to prevent parts from flying into the grandstands.

The removal of the heavy and, so far useless, front wing endplates will also help Honda teams to get closer to making minimum weight.

The course has been repaved so we should see a smooth racing surface, unlike the year the track was breaking up causing cars to wreck and heated tempers.

If we do see rain, the teams are allotted 6 sets of the wet Firestone tires. Rain is pretty much the forecast for Saturday but Sunday should again see dry weather but cooler temperatures.

IndyCar Practice is earlier today than it has been the past few races – a 10:35 am start with qualifying for race 1 at 3:40 pm.
