Buescher Extends Xfinity Points Lead With Dover Win

Chris Buescher lurked for much of Saturday’s Buckle Up 200 at Dover International Speedway but led when it counted, and eventually moved teammate Darrell Wallace Jr. out of the way and stretched his fuel to take the checkered flag at the Monster Mile.

The NASCAR XFINITY Series leader started second behind Wallace Jr. and only led 10 laps as Joe Gibbs Racing's Matt Kenseth and Erik Jones stayed out front much of the race, with Kenseth finishing second. Sipping fuel, Buescher got his second XFINITY win of the season, as nerve-wracking as the finish was.

“It’s just a slow pace there at the end. We’re just saving gas and saving gas, but we made it to the end," Buescher said after the race.

Buescher now has a 15-point lead over Ty Dillon in the points standings. Only after building a nearly 16-second lead on second-place Kenseth did Buescher began his fuel conservation efforts.

Wallace started the NASCAR XFINITY Series race as strong as he was in qualifying, leading early for a total of 52 of the day’s 200 laps. After the race he said he felt “jinxed" and was disappointed with a 17th-place finish.

Regan Smith finished third in the No. 7 JR Motorsports Chevrolet; Austin Dillon fourth in the No. 33 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet; and Kasey Kahne fifth in the No. 88 JR Motorsports Chevrolet.

Erik Jones was battling for the lead with Kenseth at the three-quarters mark of the race on his 19th birthday but finished ninth in the No. 54 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota.

Brian Scott and Jamie Dick collided in a rough wreck on Lap 62. Scott’s No. 2 was sliding down the track after spinning from contact with Ryan Blaney in Turn 1 when his car was pounded by Dick’s No. 55. Both drivers were treated and released from the infield care center after the hard hit.
