NASCAR: Bowyer leads opening practice in Sonoma

Clint Bowyer placed the #15 5-Hour Energy Toyota atop the time charts in Great Clips Fast Friday opening practice in preparation for Sunday's Toyota/Save Mart 350 at Sonoma Raceway. The 2012 Sonoma winner navigated the 1.99-mile 11-turn road course in 74.979 seconds, just under two-tenths quicker than the #47 Kingsford Charcoal Chevrolet of A.J. Allmendinger. Sam Hornish Jr. was third two-tenths behind Allmendinger.

Danica Patrick joined fellow former single-seat drivers in the top-5 posting the fourth quick time. 2013 and 2014 pole winner Jamie McMurray rounded out the top-five.

Final practice for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series begins at 3:30 p.m. local time. Full practice 1 times below.
