Iowa: Kanaan tops Dixon in Practice 1

With a laptime of 17.958s, Tony Kanaan placed the #10 Fusion Chevrolet atop the time charts in opening Verizon IndyCar Series practice for the Iowa Corn 300 at Iowa Speedway. Kanaan, the 2010 race winner at Iowa bested Chip Ganassi Racing teammate and 2014 pole winner Scott Dixon by a mere 0.0105s, with his 179.218 mph lap.

2012 and 2014 Iowa winner Ryan Hunter-Reay was the lead Honda in third, 0.0733s behind Kanaan. Charlie Kimball made it three Ganassi cars in the top-4, with last week's Milwaukee pole winner Josef Newgarden rounding out the top-5.

Other than Hunter-Reay there were no Honda-powered machines in the top-10. Carlos Munoz was the second-fastest Honda in 11th, and Honda-powered cars posted all of the six slowest speeds in the session.
