Indy Lights: Rayhall takes victory, as championship rivals collide

Sean Rayhall

8Star Motorsports' Sean Rayhall took advantage of a coming together between championship contenders Ed Jones and Jack Harvey to take over the lead in this morning's Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires race 20 at Mid-Ohio. From there, the Winston, GA native held off Carlin's Max Chilton by 0.998s and score his second Indy Lights win of 2015. Chilton finished second in Saturday's race as well.

Juncos Racing's Spencer Pigot brought the #12 machine home third, managing to avoid the problems that befell his championship rivals. Yesterday's winner RC Enerson was fourth, with Belardi Auto Racing's Felix Serralles fifth.

Harvey started from pole, but lost to lead to Jones at the start. The two came together heading into turn 3 on lap-20. And although both continued the contact for which Jones was assessed a drive-thru penalty eliminated both from contention. Ultimately, Jones finished 9th and Harvey 10th.

The result capped off a disastrous weekend for Harvey, who finished 11th yesterday.

Indy Lights will return to the track next month at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. With a Mazda scholarship at stake, Harvey takes a five-point edge into the final doubleheader weekend over Pigot, and 17-point lead over Jones.
