Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross and Scott Speed sign contract extension

Scott Speed

Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross team principals and Scott Speed announced an extension of the driver's contract ahead of the seventh round of the Red Bull Global Rallycross Championship. The three-time X Games Gold Medalist and five-time GRC race winner will continue to pilot the No. 41 Volkswagen Beetle GRC throughout the next two seasons.

"I'm super excited to re-sign for another two years with Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross," said Speed. "I've been lucky enough to be able to surround myself with an awesome crew and support team; everyone here feels like family."

"We're very happy to be able to announce our continuing relationship with Scott here at our home raceā€”Red Bull Global Rallycross DC presented by Volkswagen," said Clark Campbell, General Manager, Volkswagen Experiential Marketing. "Scott and his entire family have been great advocates for the Volkswagen brand during the past two seasons and we couldn't be happier to welcome him back to the team."

After a third-place series championship finish in 2014, Speed lies fifth in the standings at the halfway point of 2015. His season has been highlighted by a pair of second-place finishes at the Detroit double-header, as well as a second-place finish at the season-opening round in Fort Lauderdale, and his third-consecutive X Games Gold Medal victory in the non-points-paying round at Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas. The Volkswagen pilot lies only 80 points behind the championship leader and hopes to continue the good run of success that he began in the last race outing in Detroit.

"We're extremely happy to bring Scott back to the Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross team for the next two seasons," said Michael Andretti. "Scott fit right in with the Andretti organization and with his help we've quickly established ourselves in Red Bull Global Rallycross during our first two seasons in the series."

"My experience with the team over the last two years has been an amazing journey," added Speed. "We've continued to make strides in the development of our program and we're ready to begin to assert ourselves as the dominant team in this sport."
