Afternoon update from Sonoma
I will try to convey what it was like in pit lane this morning. Suffice to say, the mood is tense. Every driver in the championship fight had a pit announcer in their pit box. Juan Pablo Montoya's father is seen pacing in his son's pit. Graham Rahal's fiancée Courtney Force and Graham's Mom, Debbi Rahal, are keeping an eye on Graham's progress. Will Power has his brother from Australia, Damien, and his lovely wife Liz and her Mother waiting to see if Power can win his fourth pole at Sonoma Raceway.
I spoke with Emma Dixon, Scott's wife about how she is doing after Wilson's death this week. She replied, "I am such good friends with Julia. We have talked about something like this happening but now it is real. I just keep thinking about his girls. I am not sure what she is going to do in the future."
The Justin Wilson T-shirts that are being sold to raise money for The Wilson children's fund have sold out already. I hope they are making more available this weekend due to the high demand.
Sage Karam has been sitting in the timing stand for the car that he drove this past Sunday. The #8 Ganassi racing entry that is being driven by Saavedra this weekend. I am happy to see him resume some normal race activities and hope he can get past the tragic incident from this past Sunday.
In spite of the somber mood, the teams are working hard to get their drivers in victory circle on Sunday.
The final qualifying session for this season starts at 3:05 pm
