Afternoon update from Richmond
Brad Keselowski will look to repeat his 2014 win in tonight's Federated Auto Parts 400 |
It's about 12:30 here at Richmond International Raceway. I'm here with AR1 NASCAR Correspondent Pete McCole to cover this evening's Federated Auto Parts 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race.
It rained very heavily this morning here in Richmond. That rain has stopped and it is currently, cloudy and overcast with more rain expected this afternoon. However, the word AR1's Greater Richmond Area Weather Bureau is that the rain should move out of the area by about 6 p.m. local time. With the green flag scheduled for 7:30 p.m. we're thinking there may be a delay.
Of course, with the race being here at Richmond too long of a delay could be problematic on the other end. Richmond International Raceway is located in a neighborhood which has a curfew and noise ordinance (we hear the curfew is 1 p.m. local time, but that is not confirmed.). We asked RIR staff about the curfew and were told that "everything is on schedule for now." When we asked about the possibility of the race running late, we were then told "we can't comment on that" by a track personnel member.
Anyway, we decided to not belabor the point. Our best guess is the final race of NASCAR's regular season will run this evening and the 16 driver field for The Chase for the Sprint Cup will be set.
