Austin Dillon on Charlotte Xfinity Pole

Austin Dillon topped Friday’s qualifying session for the Drive for the Cure 300 NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Charlotte Motor Speedway for his sixth Coors Light pole of the season.

Dillon turned in a single lap in the final session of 29.424 seconds (183.524 mph) to knock Kasey Kahne from the top. Kahne claimed the second spot with a lap of 183.150 mph. Erik Jones (183.107), Chris Buescher (182.883) and Kyle Busch (182.106) rounded out the top five.

Dillon – the grandson of team owner Richard Childress – now has two straight Charlotte Xfinity Series poles after his dominating performance here back in May, where he led 163 laps en route to his first Charlotte victory.

"I really like Charlotte – this is a place I came and watched many a-laps up there in a condo in turn two with my grandfather and just listened to him talk to me about how to get around this place, and I’ve watched Jimmie Johnson win a bunch of races here," said Dillon. "For me it’s a rhythm track and I really enjoy it – it’s got a lot of character. Hopefully we can keep our Chevy up front tonight."

Brian Scott, Daniel Suarez, Ty Dillon, Darrell Wallace, Jr. and Elliott Sadler made up the rest of the top 10.
