Penalty against Joe Gibbs Racing XFINITY Series team reduced
After Kyle Busch won for the 74th time in NASCAR's No. 2 series, his JGR Toyota flunked post-race inspection when NASCAR officials found the car to be too low, failing to meet minimum height requirements on all four corners.
As a result, crew chief Chris Gayle was fined $12,500 and placed on probation through the end of the year, while team owner J.D. Gibbs was docked 10 series championship owner points.
After hearing JGR's appeal of the P2 penalty issued on Sept. 23, the appeals panel cited that due to a part failure, the fine against Gayle has been reduced from $12,500 to $8,500 while the probation on Gayle has been waved. The appeals panel upheld the 10-point penalty against the team, however.
The panel consisted of the following three individuals: Cathy Rice, Lake Speed and Kevin Whitaker
The appellants have the right to appeal the decision of the National Motorsports Appeals Panel to the National Motorsports Final Appeals Officer in accordance with Section 15 of the NASCAR Rule Book.
