The bad news just keeps coming for VW

The newly named North America chief, Dr. Winfried Vahland, is leaving his new position at VW AG which he was due to start in November, Automotive News reports. In this new position, U.S. CEO Michael Horn would have reported to him.

Vahland, 58, was appointed to the newly created position during the VW AG board meeting on Sept. 25 of this year, and is a 25-year veteran of VW AG, and has led the Czech Skoda division globally since 2010.

Vahland is reportedly leaving the post due to differences of opinion over the company's U.S. strategy.

"After 25 years of successful work in Volkswagen Group, most recently as chairman of Skoda, Prof. Dr. Winfried Vahland is leaving the company at his own request," a statement from Skoda read in part. "Prof. Vahland will therefore not be taking up the position of overall responsibility for the North American Region (NAR). Differing views on the organization of the new Group region have led to this decision; this decision is expressly not related to current events on the issue of diesel engines."

Vahland's departure will likely create further headaches for the newly created North American Region for Volkswagen AG. Vahland was picked for the position with the hope of steering the company's Canadian and U.S. operations out of the diesel crisis and overseeing the company's recall strategy in the region.
