Kenseth meeting with France today (Update)
11/16/15
Matt Kenseth has a meeting with Brian France this afternoon to discuss the fallout from his intentional wrecking of Joey Logano at Martinsville. |
Matt Kenseth is scheduled to meet with NASCAR Chairman and CEO Brian France today. Kenseth, who has been suspended two races for intentionally crashing Joey Logano two weeks ago at Martinsville, is eligible to return to the #20 Dollar General Toyota Camry for this weekend’s Ford EcoBoost 400 at Homestead. Likely, a subject of conversation will be Kenseth's comments since his suspension, when he noted that comments from France "almost condoned" what Kenseth did. France, had called Logano's wrecking of Kenseth at Kansas "quintessential NASCAR."
It goes without saying we'd love to be a fly on the wall at this meeting. France is likely still seething from Kenseth raining on the parade of his perfectly choreographed playoff season. Then, Kenseth added insult to injury by throwing France's gooing and gushing comments after Kansas right back in the face of the NASCAR Chairman and CEO.
Our guess is France will politely (or perhaps not) tell the 2003 Sprint Cup Champion that he has made his point. From there, Kenseth will be strongly encouraged to shut his piehole, a request to which Kenseth will probably oblige.
Kenseth more than settled the score with Logano after Kansas |
While Kenseth has not wavered on his position that he was the aggrieved party in the deal, let's be honest here: he came out way ahead on the deal. Yes, he was suspended, but he more than evened the score with his nemesis Logano, who was denied a sure opportunity to advance to Homestead at Martinsville. He also probably earned more fans from his decision to take out Logano than he had in the previous two decades.
Last, Kenseth's cause celebre will go down as a seminal moment in revealing to all the world just how silly and ridiculous France's Elimination Chase really is. And that's something Brian France isn't ever getting back, even if he can successfully muzzle Kenseth.
