Homestead-Miami Speedway reinforcing existing security procedures
With thousands converging on South Florida for NASCAR's Ford Championship Weekend and Sunday's Dolphins-Cowboys game, fans can expect a beefed-up security presence in the wake of the terrorist attacks in Paris. The big event of this weekend in South Florida will be at Homestead-Miami Speedway, where three days of racing will culminate in Sunday's sold-out Ford EcoBoost 400 for the Sprint Cup Series championship.
The track issued a statement Tuesday concerning security: "We are presently in close communication with the FBI and Homeland Security related to the recent tragic incidents in Paris and other locations worldwide. We have taken measures to reinforce our existing security procedures for Ford Championship Weekend. Should they provide us with additional recommendations, we will act accordingly."
Precautions are warranted in light of attacks in Paris directed at a concert hall and the premier soccer stadium during an international match where an attacker wearing a suicide vest attempted to gain entry and was turned away by security. South Florida Sun-Sentinel
