Sprint car veteran recovering after house fire
Greg Staab |
Former sprint car standout Greg Staab, whose Speedway home caught fire on New Year’s Day morning, remains in critical condition at Methodist Hospital, his daughter said Saturday.
Staab's girlfriend, Penny Stewart, has been placed on life support, family members told Fox 59. Both had to be rescued from the burning home in the 5500 block of West 16th Street.
Suzi Elliott described her Staab's condition as "improving."
The fire happened nearly three months after another longtime sprint car standout – two-time USAC champion Tony Elliott – was killed in a plane crash near the South Carolina-Georgia border. Elliott is the brother of Staab's son-in-law, Jim.
