Formula E opens battery, chassis supplier tender for season five on

The FIA has confirmed that sole battery and chassis suppliers will be used in Formula E from season five, releasing a tender for interested applicants.

For the 2015/2016 season Formula E regulations were opened up, with manufacturers able to enter and provide teams with bespoke powertrains.

Williams supplies the battery at the moment and will do until season four, with the same being said for chassis supplier Dallara. But a tender has been opened for applicants to provide the batteries and chassis from season five.

The FIA says this is to meet its objective of drivers being able to run with just one car during a race, rather than the current system of having to change to a second car at the mandatory pit stop.

The applicants for the battery and chassis supplier positions will be presented for selection at the next World Motor Sport Council.

The hope in the future is that manufacturers will be able to produce batteries too, with teams having the choice of running the standard system or creating their own, as is the case with the powertrain.
