V8 Supercars Take On Albert Park

Following a spectacular start to the season at the Clipsal 500 Adelaide, V8 Supercars head to the Formula 1 Rolex Australian Grand Prix at Albert Park this weekend.

2016 will be the 20th year V8 Supercars have competed in non-championship races at the Melbourne event.

Some of V8 Supercars' biggest names have won on the streets of Albert Park, including Craig Lowndes, Garth Tander, Todd Kelly, Mark Winterbottom, James Courtney, Jamie Whincup, Shane van Gisbergen, Fabian Coulthard and Scott McLaughlin.

Two of V8 Supercars' biggest teams, Triple Eight Race Engineering and the Holden Racing Team, will be looking to break a five year winning drought at Albert Park this weekend, with neither team taking victory since 2011.

After driving in a record 251st round in Adelaide, six-time Bathurst winner Craig Lowndes will make more history this weekend when he starts his 19th event at Albert Park.

He's been on the grid every year V8 Supercars have raced in Melbourne except 1997 when he was racing in European Formula 3000 – the most starts of any driver.

V8 Supercars will hit the track for the first time tomorrow with two practice sessions and qualifying in the afternoon.

Four 12-lap races around the 5.3km circuit will follow across Friday, Saturday and Sunday to decide the victor of the Coates Hire V8 Supercars Challenge.

The Formula 1 Rolex Australian Grand Prix, including the Coates Hire V8 Supercars Challenge will be telecast live and free on Network Ten and ONE from 11:30am Friday March 18, and live and ad-free on FOX SPORTS 506 from 12pm Friday.
