Stewards clear Alonso/Gutierrez over contact

Stewards at the Australian Grand Prix have deemed that no further action is required following the high-speed collision between McLaren's Fernando Alonso and Haas returnee Esteban Gutierrez.

Alonso struck the back of Gutierrez's car under braking for Turn 3 and slammed into the wall, before being tipped into a roll, coming to a rest upside down in the gravel trap.

Neither Alonso nor Gutierrez were injured in the accident and were quickly released from the medical center after a precautionary check-up.

Alonso absolved his colleague of blame for the incident and the Stewards have expressed the same view.

"The Stewards examined the evidence and conclude that no driver was wholly or predominately to blame," said a statement.
