NASCAR, IndyCar and F1 TV Ratings for last weekend (2nd Update)

UPDATE #2 The 'final' rating for last weekend's NASCAR Sprint Cup Series STP 500 (Martinsville) on FS1 was a 2.5 with 4.232 million viewers tuned in. The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series is averaging 7.1 million viewers after six races on Fox and FS1, down 12% from 8.1 million viewers at the same point last season, which was the first of a new media-rights deal.

Last Sunday's race from Martinsville on FS1 — the net's first telecast of the season — drew 4.2 million viewers, up slightly from 4.1 million viewers last season. That marks the Sprint Cup's first year-over-year gain this season to date. The first two races of the season — Daytona and Atlanta — saw sharp declines from '15. Over the last four races, viewership has only seen a 3% decline from '15.

The inaugural IndyCar Series race from Phoenix, the first of the season on NBCSN, scored a pathetic 'final' 0.29 rating with only 363,000 viewers tuned in last Saturday night. The NASCAR race drew over 11 times more viewers as the NBCSN noose tightens further around IndyCar's neck. NBCSN has reduced IndyCar to an irrelevant sport. The sport took a real hit since Tony George took his hammer to it 15 years ago.

Formula 1 racing from Bahrain drew 578,000 viewers on NBCSN Sunday morning, down 8% from last year (630K), down 3% from 2014 (594K), and the smallest audience for the race since 2013 (200K). Despite the drop, it still ranks as the third-most watched F1 race on NBCSN – with Bahrain taking the top three spots.

Benefiting from a NASCAR lead-in, NHRA racing from Las Vegas scored 1.3 million viewers on Fox Sports 1 Sunday afternoon — up 119% from last year (589K) and up 252% from 2014 (367K), both of which were tape delayed on ESPN2. Viewership ranks as the highest for the NHRA on any network since at least 2002

04/05/16 The NASCAR SPRINT CUP SERIES race from Martinsville, the first of the 2016 season to air live on FS1, scored 4,232,000 viewers according to Nielsen Media Research, up 4% from last year’s 4,061,000, making it the most-watched racing event and daytime telecast ever on FS1.

The race was the ninth most-watched telecast in FS1 history and the most-watched since Game 6 of last year’s ALCS between Toronto and Kansas City.

Among Adults18-49, it was up 7% over last year’s race (1,198,000 vs. 1,121,000). On FOX Sports GO, the telecast delivered 46,930 streams, 25,322 unique streamers and 1,853,642 minutes streamed.

Following the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race, the NHRA MELLO YELLO DRAG RACING SERIES from Las Vegas delivered 1,292,000 viewers, making it the most-watched NHRA event since at least 2002 and more than double last year’s event on ESPN2 that aired in prime time (576,000).

In the Adult 18-49 demographic, the NHRA race scored 354,000 viewers, a 213% increase over last year’s 113,000. FS1 was No. 1 across all cable networks in viewership and No. 2 across all cable and broadcast networks among A18-49 during Sunday’s motor sports coverage between 1:00 PM and 8:00 PM ET.

On Saturday, FS1 scored viewership increases with the NASCAR CAMPING WORLD TRUCK SERIES from Martinsville (1,177,000; up 7%), MONSTER ENERGY SUPERCROSS from Santa Clara (239,000; up 42%) and the FIA FORMULA E CHAMPIONSHIP from Long Beach (189,000; up 73%).
