Sahlen’s Joins Roger Penske Tribute June 30
Penske, celebrating 50 years as a team owner this year, is being honored on June 30 with the Argetsinger Award at the International Motor Racing Research Center Award Dinner, presented by NASCAR, International Speedway Corp., Watkins Glen International and IMSA.
Sahlen's, a family-owned producer of quality meat products since 1869 in Buffalo, N.Y., has signed on as a Diamond Sponsor of the event, which will be held at the world-renowned Corning Museum of Glass in nearby Corning, N.Y.
"There is no individual who has accomplished more in and elevated the sport more than Mr. Roger Penske," Joe Sahlen, company president, said.
Richard Petty, winningest driver in NASCAR, was the 2015 Argetsinger Award honoree. Team owner and former driver Chip Ganassi was the first recipient in 2014.
"It is not only an honor to have the generous sponsorship of Sahlen's for our Argetsinger Award Dinner honoring Roger Penske, it is so wonderfully appropriate as the dinner precedes the start of the Sahlen's Six Hour race weekend at Watkins Glen International the following day," said Tom Weidemann, Racing Research Center executive director.
The Sahlen's race is the sixth in the 12-event calendar of the 2016 WeatherTech SportsCar Championship organized by IMSA.
The award memorializes Cameron R. Argetsinger, founder and organizer of the first races at Watkins Glen. Argetsinger served as president of the IMRRC from 2002-07.
"As a longtime racing fan, sponsor and competitor residing in Western New York, WGI has been my 'home' track for over four decades," said Sahlen, who, as a driver, has raced in three different classes of Grand-Am/IMSA competition: GT, GS and ST. "To have an entity such as the IMRRC in Watkins Glen is a tremendous resource for people to appreciate the history of motorsports while they in the present contribute to its history."
The IMRRC Award Dinner is open to the public, but tickets are limited. The ticket price is $250 per person.
Tickets may be purchased online at http://www.racingarchives.org/order-tickets-now/ or by calling the Racing Research Center at (607) 535-9044. Full details about the event can be viewed at www.racingarchives.org.
