As we approach the 100th running, Racer Magazine has listed their top-5 picks for the greatest Indy 500's of all-time.
- 1960 Jim Rathmann beats Roger Ward, the two drivers swapped the lead 4 times in the final 11 laps
- 1983 Gordon Johncock holds off a faster Rick Mears to win by just 0.16 seconds
- 1991 Rick Mears beats Michael Andretti by 3.1 seconds, both drivers making daring outside passes in Turn 1 on each other in the closing laps
- 1993 Emerson Fittipaldi held off Arie Luyendyk by 2 seconds for his 2nd 500 win, then drank orange juice instead of the traditional milk in victory lane
- 2014 Ryan Hunter-Reay wins a 3-way battle and beats Helio Castroneves by just 0.06 with Marco Andretti a car-length behind in 3rd.
