Update from Armed Forces Pole Day in Indianapolis
Pippa Mann hopes for a better day Sunday |
It's been a good morning here in Indianapolis, Armed Forces Pole Day. The sun is finally shinning like it should be and the temperatures should reach 80 today. A welcome relief from the cooler temps and rain.
It is quiet in the garages this morning since the public gates do not open until 10am. The teams are here working on the cars getting ready for day 2 of qualifying. Max Chilton's and Pippa Mann's cars are repaired and ready to get out today for their first qualifying laps.
Practice does not start until noon today. Cars that qualified yesterday positions 22-33 will practice from noon to 12:30 pm. Cars qualified in positions 10-21 practice from 12:45 to 1:15 pm. And the fast nine get to take to the track for practice from 1:30 to 2 pm. Whatever happened to just having one practice session for everyone? It is a bit confusing to keep up.
Final qualifying for the running of the 100th Indy 500 will start today at 2:45 pm. All times from Saturday's qualifying are erased. Chilton, Mann and Gaby Chaves have not posted any time so they have priority today when the session starts. The cars in positions 10-30 will go in the reserve order they qualified yesterday. The Fast Nine Shootout will start at 5 pm and the order will also be reserved for the top 9 qualifiers from yesterday. So James Hinchcliffe, who did not race last year after his horrific crash during practice, will qualify last in the shootout.
We will keep you posted as the excitement unfolds today preparing for the big race next Sunday.
