Leading Edge Grand Prix To Add Usf2000 Program In 2017
"We were not that interested in the USF2000 Series in the past as it used tube frame cars and manual shift gearboxes," stated Leading Edge vice president, John Lewis.
"But, with the introduction of the new Tatuus USF-17 carbon fiber chassis that will be used next year with paddle shifters, it has peaked our interest as it is more relevant to today’s upper level open-wheel series. The Tatuus USF-17 is based on the Tatuus F4 chassis, so the progression for our drivers to come out of F4 to the USF2000 should be a smooth one. The USF2000 Championship is a well run and established Series and runs in support of Indycar at all but one event. So our drivers and those who want to join our team can be in the eye of upper level teams in Indycar if that is their direction of choice."
Leading Edge Grand Prix will continue its F4 program in 2017 and future years as its first step on the open-wheel ladder for its drivers. “We believe strongly that the F4 Championship is the right choice for drivers coming out of karting or racing school series to gain professional race car experience and it’s the perfect prelude to entering either the Road to Indy or racing in Europe."
“Starting off the 2017 USF2000 season with a brand new car places all the teams on a level playing field," said Leading Edge President and Chief Engineer, Mark Weida. “No one has any experience advantage with these cars and we have just as much experience as any team with the tracks on the schedule from our previous operations in Indycar, Indy Lights and World Challenge."
There are several formula car series out there if you just want to race and have fun, but if you’re really looking to make a professional career in open-wheel racing there are only two solid avenues in North America to follow and Leading Edge Grand Prix will have both covered with F4 and USF2000.
