Newgarden remains uncertain for Road America; Hildebrand to test at Iowa (Update)

UPDATE We just learned that Newgarden has been cleared to race this weekend.

06/24/16 Josef Newgarden's status for this weekend's Kohler Grand Prix at Road America remains uncertain.

The driver of the No. 21 Direct Supply/Ed Carpenter Racing Chevrolet of course sustained a broken clavicle and hand two weeks ago at Texas Motor Speedway. Yesterday, the Hendersonville, TN native was cleared for today's practice sessions with the intention of evaluating his status afterwards for the rest of the weekend. And from what we have been told, it is Newgarden's hands that have been causing more discomfort than his shoulder.

A decision is expected on Newgarden's status tomorrow morning. J.R. Hildebrand is on standby if Newgarden cannot drive.

Also, Hildebrand will stand in for Newgarden this week during the test at Iowa Speedway.
