Scott Speed posted the fastest lap in Supercar qualifying for the first leg of Red Bull Global Rallycross’ return to Marine Corps Air Station New River this weekend. The Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross driver turned a lap of 40.541 seconds in the final round of qualifying, enabling them to hold off teammate Tanner Foust and his lap of 40.889.

This year’s MCAS New River course runs shorter than the 2015 layout, but also includes a higher dirt-to-pavement ratio and adds a longer Joker Lap in race action. The .713-mile course saw drivers shooting for 41-second practice laps, with Speed coming closest in final practice at 41.029. In GRC Lites, the pole for tomorrow’s action went to Conner Martell, with a lap of 43.685 seconds.
