Six-time Champion Jamie Whincup stands on the verge of history as the 2016 Virgin Australia Supercars Championship heads to Queensland Raceway for the Coates Hire Ipswich SuperSprint this weekend.

Whincup is aiming to become only the second driver to bring up 100 race wins. The current championship leader notched up his 99th win at the recent Castrol Edge Townsville 400.

Standing in his way will be the only driver to have registered 100 Supercars wins, Craig Lowndes. The veteran is the most successful driver of all time at Ipswich, with 11 race wins at the venue.

There have been 10 different winners from 15 races so far this season in one of the most hotly contested years in memory. They include Kiwi flyer Shane van Gisbergen who has won three races.

Reigning Champion Mark Winterbottom will start his 400th race this weekend, the latest chapter in a distinguished career that began back in 2003. Currently sitting third in the Championship, ‘Frosty’ is looking for his first race win since Perth in May.

With a packed schedule of racing that includes Supercars, crowd-favorite Touring Car Masters, Aussie Racing Cars and the stars of the future in the CAMS Formula 4 Championship, the weekend promises plenty of action for fans.

The event will be broadcast live and ad-free on Fox Sports across Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Highlight packages will air on Network Ten, ONE and WIN in regional areas. Check your local guides for details.
