Jenson Button has been cleared to compete in the remainder of the German Grand Prix weekend after he required a precautionary trip to hospital on Friday.

Button completed only 16 laps during the second practice session at Hockenheim, fewer laps than only Romain Grosjean, amid complaints over an eye problem.

Button was taken to hospital in Mannheim and was given the green light by medical staff.

"On my way back to Hockenheim from the Mannheim hospital for an eye examination," Button confirmed on Twitter. "Foreign body found and removed. All good for tomorrow."

Button finished eighth quickest during the session.
