Video: Alexis DeJoria Injured in Funny Car Crash at Sonoma

NHRA Funny Car driver Alexis DeJoria suffered a fractured left pelvis following a hard crash in Sunday's opening round of eliminations in the Toyota NHRA Sonoma Nationals at Sonoma Raceway.

DeJoria was competing against John Force in the first round when her Tequila Patron Toyota Camry snapped to the left immediately after crossing the starting line and slammed the retaining wall barely 100 feet down the track.

DeJoria was able to exit the car under her own power but it was clear something was wrong and she was taken immediately to the Queen of the Valley Medical Center in Napa, Calif. DeJoria underwent x-rays and a CT scan that confirmed a high-energy fracture of the left pelvis. DeJoria was later released from the hospital and made preparations to return home.

DeJoria's injury will not require surgery but is likely to cause he to miss some tome behind the wheel. DeJoria's team have not made any announcement concerning their plans for a substitute driver should DeJoria be forced to sit out any events. She currently sits 10th in points – the last position to make the cutoff for the Coundown to the Championship set to begin in six weeks at zMax Dragway.
