Carey eyes F1 races in ‘great cities’

Carey sets a higher bar than even Bernie

New Formula 1 Chairman Chase Carey is keen to take the sport to "the great cities in the world", including locations such as Los Angeles, New York and Miami.

Carey, who has been appointed by Formula 1's new owners, Liberty Media, made his first official paddock appearance at last weekend's Singapore Grand Prix.

Liberty Media listed evolving the calendar as one of its 'select opportunities' after its takeover was announced, and Casey says the US will be one area for expansion.

"It is too early to have a clear plan, but we clearly will have a plan to develop America, to be in the right market," said Carey in an interview with the official F1 website.

"Formula 1 is a great premium brand and that means to me that you want to be at a location like Los Angeles, New York or Miami – ideally in the great cities in the world!"

Carey also feels that Formula 1 races should be part of a "great event".

"The amazing cars and technology; the stars – the world is built on heroes; the global aspect with these amazing venues," he added, when asked to list F1's three biggest assets.

"I have not been to all the venues so far, but Singapore certainly is amazing. The race is great – that's the core – but it is a week-long extravaganza with music and entertainment.

"That's really what it is about – great events. This is it: creating a great event.

"So the cars and technology; the stars; and the events – the live experience."
