Fire halts opening Malaysian GP practice
Opening practice for the Malaysian GP was red-flagged for 15 min. due to a severe fire on Kevin Magnussen’s Renault in the pitlane.
Magnussen had completed an installation lap at Sepang before returning to the pits but as his car was being pushed back in to the garage, flames erupted from underneath the engine cover — with Magnussen being pulled out of the cockpit before he burnt like a crispy fritter.
Despite hitting the car with extinguishers, the fire burn for several minutes as raw fuel was seen pouring from the top of the engine cover.
The car was badly damaged by the fire.
