Whincup on Pole for Bathurst 1000

Jamie Whincup will start from pole position for tomorrow’s Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 at Mount Panorama.

The six-time Supercars Champion snatched pole in a thrilling climax to this afternoon’s ARMOR ALL Top 10 Shootout.

The Holden driver pipped Volvo’s Scott McLaughlin by six one hundredths of a second with Ford’s Chaz Mostert three one hundredths of second behind in third place.

It was a remarkable return for Mostert who last year suffered a horrific crash at Mount Panorama to send him out of the championship for the rest of the season.

Earlier 17-year-old driver Jack Smith escaped unscathed after a nasty crash in the Supercars Dunlop Series race.

Smith was taking part in his first race at Mount Panorama after being called up to replace Renee Gracie who will drive with Simona De Silvestro as part of the Harvey Norman Supergirls in tomorrow’s Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000.
