Davison and Webb Win Bathurst Thriller
Davison clinched his second Bathurst title after holding off Kiwi Shane van Gisbergen in the final laps after a dramatic incident involving Jamie Whincup with 10 laps to go.
Whincup was hit with a 15 second penalty after a collision with Scott McLaughlin and Garth Tander which effectively ended the trio’s race.
It was third year in a row Whincup has blown his chances of victory in the closing stages of Australia’s biggest race. The six-time Supercars Champion eventually finished 11th.
After a relatively incident free first half of the race, it exploded into life with a number of crashes, safety cars, dramatic passes and controversial incidents.
Van Gisbergen and co-driver Alex Premat’s second place was their best Bathurst result with Nick Percat and Cameron McConville finishing third to complete the podium.
The Harvey Norman Supergirls Simona De Silvestro and Renee Gracie finished a respectable 14th in their best Bathurst result.
Today’s race was preceded with a special tribute to legend Peter Brock on the 10th anniversary of his death. Supercars drivers took part in a special parade of some of Brock’s famous Bathurst cars before the race.
Brock’s brother Phil presented the Peter Brock Trophy to Davison and Webb on the podium. 204,512 fans attended the four day event, the second biggest ever crowd in the history of the race.
