Red Bull duo 1-2 in final USGP practice

Max Verstappen was fastest ahead of Red Bull teammate Daniel Ricciardo in Saturday morning’s third practice for the 2016 Formula 1 United States Grand Prix. Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen was third, with Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg – neither of whom completed a hot, timed lap on the quickest supersoft tire – fourth and fifth.

Suspected transmission problems limited Sebastian Vettel’s running in the second Ferrari and he was sixth ahead of Force India’s Nico Hulkenberg and Williams’ Valtteri Bottas. The McLarens of Jenson Button and Fernando Alonso completed the top ten.

Pascal Wehrlein, who is choking because his new teammate Esteban Ocon is better than him, caused a brief red-flag stoppage mid-session when he lost control of his Manor at Turn 19 and beached it in the gravel, while Toro Rosso’s Carlos Sainz suffered two separate punctures during the hour, one left-rear and one right-rear.
