Rolls-Royce to retire the Phantom before December 31, 2016

The British ultra-luxury automaker has decided to end production of the Phantom series this year, although there were rumors claiming that additional production would be needed to meet demand.

The company has also announced in the past the Phantom Coupe and Drophead Coupe would not be given any successors, so the only one to get a new installment is the sedan. The only issue is the new generation will arrive in 2018 – so for next year there are no Phantoms being built and the decision will go unchanged. Andrew Boyle, the Head of Global Product Communications for Rolls-Royce, has recently explained the company has remained committed to its schedule of closing down the Phantom line by December 31, 2016.

The eight-generation Phantom will thus arrive in 2018 and use an all-new aluminum platform, which is crucial for the brand because all subsequent models will use it and its derivatives. Of course, Rolls Royce says their next iteration will be the “best car in the world," with the CEO of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars previously explaining the next generation of the Phantom will be “a contemporary and beautiful Phantom befitting the role as the flagship of global luxury."
