Team Penske renews deal with PPG

Building on one of the longest partnerships in motorsports, PPG Industries and Team Penske today announced a multi-year extension of their relationship.

Celebrating the 34th year of its successful partnership with Team Penske in 2017, Pittsburgh-based PPG's automotive refinish business – a leading worldwide supplier of high-performance coatings for passenger vehicles, motorcycles, heavy-duty trucks and many commercial applications – will continue as a key team partner into next season and beyond.

PPG Automotive Refinish will serve as a primary sponsor on one of Team Penske's entries for four Verizon IndyCar Series races in 2017 and as an associate sponsor on all of the team's cars and equipment. PPG enjoyed a remarkable track record of success in IndyCar competition this year as 2016 series champion Simon Pagenaud drove the No. 22 PPG Automotive Refinish Chevy to victory in three of the four races in which that car raced this season.

In NASCAR, PPG will once again be a primary sponsor on a Team Penske car for one XFINITY Series race and, through the new agreement extension, the company will serve as an associate sponsor on all of the team's NASCAR entries.

"As one of the Team Penske's longest and most trusted partners for more than 30 years, PPG has been a big part of our success both on and off the track," said Roger Penske. "Our teams continue to win with PPG and we look forward to building on the success together with our NASCAR and INDYCAR programs in the future."

"We have a very special relationship with Team Penske," said John Outcalt, PPG vice president, global automotive refinish. "We've worked together successfully for years and are proud to be a part of the team's winning tradition. Team Penske did exceptionally well racing in 2016–Simon Pagenaud and Joey Logano were outstanding–and we're excited about the prospects for 2017. By extending our partnership into the future, we're ensuring mutual support for years to come. PPG and Team Penske are in it for the long run.

Team Penske and PPG established their partnership in 1983 through PPG's participation in motorsports and sponsorship of the PPG Cup from 1979 to 1999 in the CART Series, where Penske teams competed. The opportunities between the two companies started with PPG providing paint for Penske's race cars. Over the years, the relationship has grown and PPG has become Penske Corporation's largest supplier of refinish coatings for its racing, truck leasing and automotive collision repair subsidiaries. Team Penske continues to feature PPG's Envirobase, an environmentally-friendly “green" product, that's used to paint all of the team's race cars and equipment

The 2017 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season begins in February with the running of the non-points Unlimited and Daytona 500 on February 26. The NASCAR XFINITY Series also begins at Daytona on February 25. The 2017 Verizon IndyCar Series season starts March 12 on the Streets of St. Petersburg.
