IMG signs three-year V8 Supercars renewal

Global sports marketing and media company IMG has agreed a new three-year deal to distribute the worldwide media rights for the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship, Australia's top domestic motorsport series.

The new agreement runs until 2019 and covers media and broadcast rights, including in-flight rights, around the world, excluding Australia and New Zealand.

IMG helped to distribute the rights for Supercars to 83 markets in 2016. The package for the next three seasons includes 38 live races across all television and digital platforms, as well as highlights shows and magazine round-up programs.

“We are delighted to once again have renewed our deal with V8 Supercars, taking our relationship with them to ten years," said Chris Guinness, senior vice president and head of Asia Pacific for IMG Media. "We have seen consistent growth in terms of broadcasters, homes reached and awareness for the sport and anticipate further interest going forward."

The 2017 series, the first under the new title sponsorship of Virgin Australia, will include 14 rounds across Australia and New Zealand, kicking off 2nd March at the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide.
