Final IndyCar test of 2016 Friday
Craig Hampson back with Bourdais |
Chip Ganassi Racing and Dale Coyne Racing are scheduled to complete a single-day IndyCar test – the final one for 2016 – scheduled for Dec. 9 at the Sebring short course.
Scott Dixon, Tony Kanaan, and Charlie Kimball and maybe Max Chilton will test for the Ganassi team.
Sebastien Bourdais and Ed Jones will test for Dale Coyne Racing.
"It's Ed Jones' first outing with our team; although he's tested for other IndyCar teams in the past, it's his first time for us and first time at Sebring," Craig Hampson told RACER. "It will also be his first time out with his engineer Michael Cannon and our crew. He's never done a pit stop, so it's time to learn how to do that. He's a rookie and they get a couple of extra days to learn the things he needs to learn before we go racing."
"On Seb's side, it will be his first chance to drive with a Honda aero kit on a road or street course," Hampson said. "We tested at the Gateway oval with him, but this will give him a direct comparison versus the Chevy in road racing trim, and to figure out the plusses and minus on the engine and aero side."
"It will be some basic stuff – here's a wing change, how did it react to that? Here's a spring change, how did it react to that?" Hampson continued. "It's basic, but we want to have that planted in his mind before he goes off to France for the holidays. He has a very specific idea of how the car needs to feel for him to perform, so that's what we'll get started on."
