ARCA Truck Series Ceasing Operations
Series Director Tom Cumbow made the announcement in a statement on the ARCA Truck Series website on Friday evening.
"The reasons are several, but that is not the concern today. Robbin (Slaughter), Ed (Yoak) and I would like sincerely to thank everyone who has participated, at any level, with the series," said Cumbow. “It goes without saying we could not have accomplished what we did without every one of you.
"I would like to personally thank everyone for buying into what some would call ‘crazy ideas’ of mine, even when everyone questioned if they would work. Your confidence in me to be your Series Director was and is an honor. I will miss the long days at the tracks, the high fives after the races, your red faces in mine when you didn’t agree with the calls, the laughs and the cold drinks, etc.… but most of all…I will miss the friendships built. I hope we can continue the friendships away from the track even though they cross over seven states.
"In closing, I proud of what we accomplished and truly believe we gave it a great run for a group of competitors who had no experience in this very challenging industry, during one of the biggest recessions the country was seen in over 40 years. I hope no one ever regrets being part of this family, as it has been an honor to serve you. I wish the best of luck to everyone moving forward."
The series was started in 1999 and was operated by ARCA until 2009, when the sanctioning body opted not to continue operating series. Several competitors came together to form the Phoenix Management Group of Ohio, which took over as series operators in addition to licensing the ARCA name.
Shawn Szep was the final ARCA Truck Series champion in 2016.
