GM to announce $1B investment in USA and 1,000 new jobs
A GM spokesman said the automaker plans to make an announcement Tuesday but declined to comment further.
Trump last week praised the other Detroit 3 automakers after Ford Motor Co. said it was canceling a $1.6 billion plant in Mexico and FCA said it would spend $1 billion to add 2,000 jobs in Michigan and Ohio. Trump mischaracterized the plans, saying FCA was building a new plant in the Midwest, but his comments turned the spotlight onto GM, which he had criticized for importing Mexican-made Chevrolet Cruze hatchbacks in a Jan. 3 post on Twitter.
"I hope that General Motors will be following," Trump said at his Jan. 11 news conference, which was televised live on most national networks. "And I think they will be."
