McLaren has announced that its 2017 challenger has passed the FIA's crash tests.

Formula 1 is preparing to enter a new era of technical regulations, with 2017 cars expected to be four to five seconds per lap faster than 2016, due to revised aerodynamics and much wider Pirelli tires.

Force India, Toro Rosso and Haas have also cleared the mandatory crash test hurdle.

"After a lot of hard work, I want to say thanks to those who helped us pass the FIA's crash tests. Now to get it painted!" Racing Director Eric Boullier was quoted on McLaren-Honda's Twitter account.

McLaren will launch its new car, set to be named the MP4-32, on February 24.

"We've seen the aero reports, which are looking good, and the power reports are looking good," said McLaren chief Zak Brown at the recent Autosport Show, hailing "great progress" from Honda.

"Obviously [the reunion in] 2015 was a pretty painful year for the team.

"2016 was a good step forward, but still not where you'd expect McLaren to be. If we can make that same step from '15 to '16, '16 to '17, I think we're heading in the right direction."
