Berlin to host Formula E double-header

The FIA has confirmed that June's Berlin Formula E round will become a double-header to make up for the cancellation of the race in Brussels.

City officials in Brussels confirmed in January they had voted against hosting Formula E in the Koekelberg district on July 1, leaving event promoters with a race against time to find a new location for the all-electric series' event.

Given the limitations involved, the decision has now been taken by Formula E to make the Berlin event on the June 10 weekend a double-header round, with races being held on both the Saturday and Sunday.

The move ensures that the Formula E calendar for season three remains at 12 races, with the final three rounds in Berlin, New York and Montreal all set to be double-headers.

The races in Berlin will take place on a street course built around the historic Tempelhof Airport, which last hosted Formula E back in 2015. The local government in Berlin vetoed the series returning to its season two location of Karl-Marx-Allee earlier this year.
