IMSA places Alon on probation
Alon was determined to have violated Rule 30.6 (unjustifiable risk) of the 2017 IMSA Sporting Regulations & Series Supplementary Regulations for the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.
Alon, driving the No. 15 Lexus RCF, tried to dive to the inside of the No. 86 Acura NSX at the hairpin. The move led to the Acura making contact with the No. 96 BMW M6, sending all three cars into the wall at the outside of the hairpin.
That resulted in the track becoming blocked at the hairpin, leading to the class-leading GT Le Mans No. 3 Corvette Racing entry becoming trapped behind the crashed cars. When the track cleared to the inside, the No. 4 Corvette Racing entry was able to slip below the crashed cars and the No. 3 to take the lead and win the race in the GT Le Mans class.
