IRL to sponsor karting series

UPDATE #2 This rumor is upgraded to 'fact' today. See Hot News for the official announcement. 10/14/04 At 3:30 p.m. Saturday, the Indy Racing League will make a special announcement. The participants will include Sr. Vice President for Business Affairs Ken Ungar and two special guests. We hear the announcement will be about this karting deal. 10/05/04 We have it on good word that the IRL will sponsor the Stars of Tomorrow Karting championship (run by Bryan Herta, et al) in Florida this year, and sponsor the series for the next 3 years! This program used to be part of the Champ Car ladder system as the first rung to develop road racing skills. What is Champ Car doing while the IRL continues to pluck their paddock dry?
