HVM could become 3-car team

While Gigante remains undecided, Mexico City was the last race for the Herdez Group as a major sponsor in the Champ Car series after more than a decade. The pullout is reportedly due to a battle for power within Herdez between the Hernandez Pons brothers. Enrique Hernandez Pons is assisting team principal Keith Wiggins in the search for new Mexico-based sponsorship for the re-named HVM (Hola Viva Mexico!) team, and Wiggins believes that new backers could be announced in the near future. Mario Dominguez is contracted to the team for two more years, though the Mexican may have an alternate opportunity in Formula 1 down the road. Representatives from the start-up Midland team were present at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez, and with F-1 likely to return to Mexico in the future, they invited Dominguez to tour the Dallara factory and test the car when it appears in mid-2005. Ryan Hunter-Reay could remain with the team, and though he wants to remain in Champ Cars, the 23 year old is reportedly being courted by IRL IndyCar Series team Ganassi Racing. Hunter-Reay led all 250 laps in winning on the Milwaukee oval earlier this year. HVM could expand to three cars, with Roberto Gonzalez bringing his Nextel sponsorship over from PKV Racing.
