McLaren driver Stoffel Vandoorne has been hit with a three-place grid penalty for causing a collision during the Spanish Grand Prix.
The Belgian racer entered Turn 1 alongside Williams' Felipe Massa during the latter stages of the race where the two made contact, forcing Vandoorne to pull off the circuit with suspension damage.

Vandoorne was blamed for the incident by the race stewards who deemed he "drove in a manner which caused him to collide with car 19 (Massa)." He will therefore start the next event in Monaco three-places lower than he qualifies.

The stewards also issued him with two penalty points, bringing his 12-month total to three.

McLaren are now the only team yet to score a point this season as team-mate Fernando Alonso finished P12 after opening lap troubles, despite starting in 7th – his best grid position since Hungary 2016
