Sunday (Pole Day) update from Indy (Raining Now)

UPDATE Rain has hit the Speedway again but we do not expect it to last all day. The rain should end this morning and we should be dry the rest of the day. Sunshine is expected during the run for the pole late today.

05/21/17 Good morning from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. A cloudy and misty day so far, but by the time the cars are scheduled to get on track, the temperature should be in the low 70s and sunny. We dodged the funnel cloud that was about 35 miles from the track last evening. Today is Pole Day on Crown Royal Armed Forces Weekend. There is an enlistment ceremony today at 10:30 today.

We are thinking about Sebastien Bourdais this morning after his horrific crash in qualifying yesterday. Bourdais had the fastest two qualifying laps of the day before hitting the wall hard in turn 2. The big question in my mind now is who will replace the injured Bourdais in the number 18 car for Dale Coyne Racing. The team was busy putting together a new car shortly after the accident last evening.

Today's schedule starts at noon for the cars that qualified 10 through 33 yesterday. They get 45 minutes of practice. Then the fast 9 from yesterday take the track at 1:15 for their 45 minutes of practice. At 2:45 the cars in positions 10-33 will requalify. And at 5 pm, the Fast 9 shootout will happen to requalify the top 9 positions.

We will keep you posted on the happenings today…
