Where will Hunter-Reay land?
UPDATE Word is that Hunter-Reay will probably land at either Forsythe, HVM (Herdez), or Rocketsports, but why is he being strung along when he could be out there testing with his team and getting ready for the '05 season? Obviously, the best place for RHR to be, for both the series and Hunter-Reay, would be in the most competitive seat available -the one vacated by Patrick Carpentier- as Ryan is an established star, a proven race winner, and fan favorite. One would think Champ Car would avoid putting the few Americans they do have in the series behind the eight ball, hence lessening their chance for success, but as with the late TV deal which hurt the series because it was so late, putting off even the most important decisions like Hunter-Reay to the last minute appears to be SOP (standard operating procedure). 02/04/05 After turning down a ride with Chip Ganassi in the IRL Ryan Hunter-Reay has been trying to firm up a ride in Champ Car. The only seat still open that appears to have Hunter-Reay's name on it is Rocketsports alongside Alex Tagliani. However, with news that the team is testing Timo Glock in Sebring this weekend who is rumored to have a fistful of cash, it may be that Rocketsports won't have room for Hunter-Reay either. Hunter-Reay has no financial backing so it is possible the American could see himself without a ride in 2005. A third car at Forsythe is also a possibility but the team has no confirmed sponsors so far and is looking for funded drivers to fill their 3rd and 4th slot. With all the European and Brazilian drivers out there with some cash, Hunter-Reay's Champ Car career, that saw him win a race in his rookie and sophomore years, could be short-lived.
