Meijer Fan Zone Offers Something for Fans of All Ages at Chevrolet Detroit GP

DETROIT, Mich. (June 3, 2017) – The Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear features world-class racing on track, but off the track the fun and entertainment is just as exciting in the Meijer Fan Zone.

After entering the Grand Prix and going through the midway, fans walk over the Chevrolet Bridge to the enter the Meijer Fan Zone, which includes something for fans of all ages. Live music, Detroit-themed food and beverages, interactive displays, the chance to meet some of Detroit’s legendary athletes, extreme sports demonstrations and more await fans all three days of the Grand Prix on Belle Isle.

The Detroit Sports District will host displays from all four major sports teams in Detroit, allowing fans to take pictures and get autographs from some of the legends in the Motor City sports scene. Fans can test their skills in basketball, baseball and football with the interactive stations like the Quarterback Challenge and Football Obstacle Course, Speed Pitch and Basketball Shoot Out. Guests can take a picture on the popular BIG chairs again this year or test their concentration in the Meijer BIG Match Up Game.

Extreme sports demonstrations return to the Grand Prix with the Monster Energy Drink BMX Team taking to the skies each day. Fans looking to get their chance behind the wheel can visit the INDYCAR Fan Village for interactive racing-related experiences.

The MotorCity Casino Hotel Entertainment Stage will be rocking all weekend long with local and national acts headlined by country music duo Montgomery Gentry at approximately 6:00 pm on Saturday night and Dance music icon Jody Watley featuring Shalamar Reloaded at 1:00 pm for a matinee concert on Sunday afternoon. Located near the stage is the tailgating games such as Bubble Soccer, Beer Pong, Corn Hole and more.

Guests can make a pit stop at the Bud Light Beer Garden and Food Court to grab a bite or a drink with local flair. The Beer Garden and Food Court features food from Metro Detroit’s favorite “On the Go" foods such as Andiamo Italia, Andiamo Pizza Pie, Bearclaw Coffee, Big Dog Hot Dogs, Bowdler’s Concessions, Chick-A Dee Chicken, Cinnamon Nuts & More, Crepe DayTwah, Delectabowl, Different Twists Pretzels, J & J Concessions, Jackson Five Star Catering BBQ & Motown Bistro, Matthewson’s Concessions, Metro Beverage Company, and Scoopers Ice Cream while Rusted Crow Spirits will help fans quench their thirst. Music will be provided by 101 WRIF, who will be broadcasting all weekend long inside the Bud Light Beer Garden and Food Court.

Fans hoping to meet and take pictures with their favorite Grand Prix drivers can participate in autograph sessions in the Meijer Fan Zone. The Verizon IndyCar Series drivers will sign on Saturday in the INDYCAR Fan Village from 11:30 am-12:15 pm, while the drivers of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship will sign in Picnic Shelter #3 on Saturday morning from 10:30 am-11:15 am. The Trans Am Series presented by Pirelli drivers will host an autograph session in Picnic Shelter #3 on Sunday morning from 9:30 am-10:00 am before the final series race of the weekend.

The Chevy Racing Tour just inside the entrance to the Meijer Fan Zone will give fans a chance to learn more about the latest vehicles Chevy has to offer. Experience the Chevys on display, including the 2017 MotorTrend Car of the Year, Bolt EV.

Made In Detroit is the official merchandise supplier of the Grand Prix, and will have tents and displays in the Meijer Fan Zone. Fans can purchase official Grand Prix merchandise and event souvenirs, including the 2017 Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear official poster, throughout the venue.

In 2017, unique Michigan crafters display their designs in the Art Fair Fun craft show in the Meijer Fan Zone. Guests can browse and purchase the unique art that will be featured all weekend long.
