Sunday morning update from Detroit GP
The championship points are really tight this season. With seven different winners for the seven races, the driver that is consistent every race, it the one leading the points. Scott Dixon, driving the number 9 Camping World entry for Chip Ganassi Racing, has an injury from the horrific accident in the Indy 500 last Sunday. People ask why he is racing if he is hurt. Because after this second place finish yesterday, he is leading the points race by only two points over Helio Castroneves.
Helio Castroneves, driving the number 3 Hitachi entry for Team Penske, had the fastest qualifying time but was not awarded the pole yesterday due to a penalty for not slowing down for a local yellow during his qualifying session. And he finished seventh in the race yesterday, which gave the points lead to Dixon. Don't expect Castroneves, who has never been an IndyCar Champion, to give up his quest for the Astor Cup.
IndyCar qualifying for today's race is scheduled for 10:45 am, rain or shine.
AR1 will keep you updated during the day.
